KAABOO: Tell us a little about how you and your fiance met?
JESSICA: I was visiting my brother in PB, I usually try to visit San Diego for a week every summer. Probably a month before KAABOO I still hadn’t made up my mind on if I wanted to go or not, at the last minute I decided, “yes!”
I met Joel the first day of the festival. My brother and I had just finished listening to Jamestown Revival, front row!
We took some pictures with the band and after that, we headed to charge our phones at one of the charging station where they were giving out free energy drinks and… it was air conditioned.
My brother said that his friends were over at the main stage waiting for Fitz and the Tantrums and that he was going to meet up with them. I was 50/50 about getting up from my spot but decided to go along. We walked to the main stage, the atmosphere was perfect. Every body around just seemed to be on some sort of happiness high. All of a sudden, this guy comes out of the crowd walking towards us (imagine slow motion like in a movie) with a massive ear-to-ear grin on his face. I did a double take and thought to myself, “Whooooo is this guy?! He’s pretty cute with some resemblance to Edward Norton.” After that, we headed over to the Sierra Nevada Beer stand and he bought us all beers.
Six months later we got engaged and seven months later I moved from Missouri to San Diego.
KAABOO: Was it love at first sight?
JESSICA: I think it was more like “wow.. this guy, I don’t know what it is… but I like it and he’s interested!”
Joel said he didn’t know what it was either but he said, the very next day, he knew he was going to marry me.
KAABOO: Did you watch any bands play together that weekend?
JESSICA: We saw Fitz and the Tantrums, No Doubt, Zac Brown Band, The Killers, Neon Trees, The Revivalists, Cherub, Girl Talk, Michael Franti & Spearheads and, last but not least, Lucero.
KAABOO: What is your favorite memory from your first weekend together?
JESSICA: There are so many good memories I have from that weekend.
Eating Spicy Pie from one of the pizza vendors, at least five times, sitting in the air conditioning drinking free energy drinks charging our phones, dancing to Girl Talk ’til 2 in the morning, the amazing food/drink vendors, all the new people we both met and are still friends with, listening to Blues Traveler at the main stage watching the coaster rolling by into the sunset AND not to mention the bad ass luxury air conditioned restrooms! Leaving San Diego that weekend was hard.
KAABOO: Will you be attending KAABOO 16?
JESSICA: Yep! We got our tickets the day the dates were announced!
KAABOO: Will you be incorporating any songs you heard at KAABOO 2015 into your wedding day?
JESSICA: Most definitely! We will be playing songs from the Killers, the Revivalists, and some Jamestown Revival! And of course, “More Than Just a Dream” from Fitz and the Tantrums.
Jessica & Joel, we are so happy for you both and can’t wait to celebrate your impending nuptials where the magic all began in September!
