KAABOO

You recently announced that you will be releasing your memoir, Change of Seasons, due out April 2017. What can your fans expect with this release?

John Oates

I’ve always wanted to write a book and this is an opportunity to relive and chronicle my earliest influences and experiences that made me who I am. It is not the definitive story of Hall & Oates because without Daryl’s input it couldn’t be 100% accurate. It is my point of view and recollections of a lifetime’s work.

KAABOO

You and Daryl Hall have been touring for nearly five decades. What’s one of your favorite memories from being on tour?

John Oates

Just the fact that we are still playing together with an amazing band and that folks are still coming to see and hear us.

KAABOO

When you’re not on tour or in the studio, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

John Oates

I love being outdoors in the mountains of Colorado working on my ranch, riding my bike and taking drives in the country with the top down.

KAABOO

While living in Nashville, you’ve played smaller, more intimate shows, such as the American Songwriter Anniversary Show at the City Winery where you only played to a crowd of about 300. How do you compare those types of performances to the larger arenas, amphitheaters, and festivals that you’re currently playing on tour?

John Oates

I love playing the intimate “songwriter” style shows and telling stories its a chance to connect on a much more personal level but nothing can compare with the energy of playing to a big crowd in a large venue…they are both different but both amazing in their own ways.

KAABOO

What’s the first thing you’ll do when you get to San Diego? Do you have any favorite local hangouts?

John Oates

Maybe go down to the beach if I have time. If not just visit with friends backstage and catch some of the other artists at the festival.

KAABOO

Comedy duo “Garfunkel & Oates” will also be performing at KAABOO. We hear you’ve had some fun interactions with them in the past. Do you have any fun stories to share?

John Oates

Those gals are brilliant! I love the way they combine social commentary with their comedy. Their songs are clever and very smart…plus they’re just cool people.

KAABOO

Last but not least, the fans are wanting to know… what can they expect when Daryl Hall & John Oates step out on the stage at KAABOO in September?

John Oates

All the songs that they might expect plus some surprises…plus a kick ass band and a good time!
