Last week we caught up with soulful performer and friend of KAABOO, Donavon Frankenreiter, in between his tour dates, to chat about surfing in San Diego.
SURFING IN SAN DIEGO WITH DONAVON FRANKENREITER
How do you like to relax when you’re not on stage?
I like to escape with a few friends to catch some waves. The best days are spent surfing with friends.
Describe the surf scene in San Diego.
The beautiful thing about San Diego surfing is that there are amazing waves throughout the whole area. No matter where you are at, you can find good waves.
Is there a “best spot to surf” in San Diego?
From Oceanside down to La Jolla, there are so many surf spots, so it’s less about the spot and more about what the waves are giving us in a particular area.
One of the tried and true, “never fails you,” surfing options is behind a boat at the Carlsbad Lagoon. They have mastered the way to get endless, good waves that go on forever!
One piece of advice for someone new to surfing in San Diego:
My advice is to never stop exploring, find a spot and catch your own wave…make it your own experience. You can’t go wrong.
He’ll also be joining our friends at Mastercraft and Billabong for some surfing and wake-boarding fun with our HANG TEN guests in the mornings before the KAABOO fun starts
