KAABOO 16 is now behind us and we’re already gearing up for 2017. In the meantime, however, we’re walking down memory lane with some of the top moments from this year’s MIX-perience, in no particular order.
TOP 10 KAABOO 16 MOMENTS
1. CHRIS ISAAK CROONING THE CROWD
The dreamy crooner Chris Isaak and the soulful songstress Macy Gray rocked the exclusive preview night for HANG FIVE & HANG TEN pass-holders. The highlight had to be when Mr. Isaak came into the crowd and made a few moms swoon, and some dads too.
2. PYROTECHNICS AT FALL OUT BOY
Fall Out Boy, lit it up, no joke, with pyrotechnics for days and music that rocked all night long.
3. JACK JOHNSON AND G. LOVE
The bromance between Jack Johnson & G. Love is sumpin’ pretty special and the entire KAABOO crowd got to witness some of their chemistry when G. joined Jack to perform the tune that landed Jack Johnson on the map. It’s called Rodeo Clowns, and if you aren’t already familiar with this song, go take a listen, you’ll thank us.
4. ONE WORD: AEROSMITH
We’ll be dreaming about this performance for longer than Steven Tyler can hold that last “o-o-o-o-n.” This legendary classic rock band did not disappoint KAABOO fans as they went from hit to hit, hitting the high notes, flipping their long locks and capturing our hearts.
5. SAN DIEGO CHEF STEVE BROWN TAKING HOME THE CULINARY GOLD
Things heated up in the KAABOO kitchen when six talented chefs went whisk to whisk in a culinary challenge with Celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey and Troy Johnson as emcees. Imperial Beach hometown boy Steve Brown came out on top and with his masterful creation of Australian Lamb Loin Forged Surf & Turf.
6. THE MAN IN THE MIRRORS
KAABOO guests shared the pathways with many incredible ambulatory art pieces including the animals on stilts and the Roller Girls, but the best had to be the Man in the Mirrors.
7. ART, ART, EVERYWHERE ART
In addition to the variety of large murals welcoming you into the stages and throughout the venue, the galleries inside of ArtworK brought together an incredible display of artwork. Some of our favorites were the works displayed by Grace Slick, John Lennon and Ronnie Woods.
8. HIGH SPIRITS WITH CHEECH & CHONG
KAABOO audiences were laughing til they cried when old timers Cheech & Chong took the stage to tell jokes and sing parodies of their heritage–highlarity ensued.
9. LIGHT ON OUR FEET AND TAN
KAABOO guests were able to relax, primp and indulge in the spa section of the MIX-perience called Indulgences. A special treat for guests was the Meet and Greet with Peta Murgatroyd, 2x winner of Dancing with the Stars. She debuted her new bronzing/self-tanning line called Peta Jane by South Seas Skincare. Check out the recap video of all the goodness that went down so next year you’ll know what not to miss.
10. CROWD SING-A-LONGS
A highlight of any live show is the obligatory crowd participation during one of the artist’s biggest hits. Friday night’s Gavin DeGraw audience got to share in an unforgettable sing-a-long moment during his performance of “I Don’t Wanna Be.” We’re still singing along in our minds.
BONUS MOMENT: ROCKING THE WAVES
Since we had such a hard time narrowing it down to just 10 moments, we decided to add in a bonus moment which was the wake surfing expedition with our buddy Donavon Frankenreiter. One of the amenities of a HANG TEN pass was the opportunity to spend both Saturday and Sunday morning with Donavon in his home away from home, the water.
We are diligently working on our plans for 2017, including lineups, stage layouts and much more! Year two of KAABOO was full of good tunes, good vibes, and good people. We are looking forward to rocking out with you all again next year! Join us September 15-17th!
